Highlanders 4 Transparency
Following the disparities initiated by the corona virus pandemic, campus closures, and ever increasing disparities impacting our most vulnerable student communities, H4T turned a rotten situation of remote study into an impactful social media presence based around informing students on dire issues at UC Riverside that were not being addressed.
Highlanders 4 Transparency grew to over 2,000 followers within a couple of months. Allowing us to successfully have the our students voices heard throughout the community.
Through our digital strategies we achieved physical success by donating $5,300 to the Black Lives Matter movement during a height of it's significance. These donations would have otherwise been lost within the A.S. UC Riverside system.
Achievement Highlights
Consistent Success Across Social Media
Successfully petitioned against the UCR athletics department budget cuts, receiving nearly 16,000 signatures in support of our cause. The budget cuts would have resulted in lay offs of 90 staff members and the scholarships of over 300 UCR student athletes.
Public Impact and Cyber Security
Assisted over 2,000 UC students in securing their personal identity information following the University of California information hack that affected tens of thousands of UC affiliated individuals.
A.S. Board Donation Accountability
We successfully pressured the outgoing A.S. committee to hold themselves accountable by informing the community of the missing $5,300 BLM donation. Not only did the donation help the movement, but pressuring A.S. helped to guarantee issues like this would not arise again.
